My Three Pillars to Wellness Approach

Pillar 1

Fitness

Michelle is a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor specializing in low impact, high burn workouts. The MichLWellness membership provides access to a library of on demand workout content, for all fitness levels. Members will also have access to live Zoom workouts

If you’re looking for something a little more personalized, virtual one-on-one personal training and private group fitness classes are also available. Take classes from the comfort of your own home, and get the individualized attention you need, or be part of something bigger and enjoy the energy of a group Zoom class.

Pillar 2

Nutrition

This pillar for me is about knowledge and discovery, not deprivation. Everyone is built differently, and once you find the foods that serve you, you’ll be able to achieve your health goals. Food should be whole, nutritious and delicious. The MichLWellness memberships come with tips and tricks, recipes and sample meal plans to help you with this pillar of your health journey. You also have full access to the MichLWellness blog with a full assortment of tools to get you started.

Pillar 3

Wellness

It’s been shown, especially in recent years, how important it is to not only address your physical health, but your mental one as well. Health issues manifest in the body due to underlying stress and anxiety, and can cause a host of illnesses, aches and pains. These are harder to diagnose because most solutions involve prescribing a pill to treat the symptoms instead of digging deep to treat the cause.  The MichLWellness program provides guidance and activities to help focus your mind, and nurture your soul.

What Our Happy Clients Are Saying:
I worked with Michelle for 4 weeks and absolutely loved it!

I've never had a personal trainer before so this was a completely new experience for me. She gave me a form to fill out and tailored the workouts to equipment I have and workouts that I like.

Sessions were mostly strength based with small cardio bursts, which I'm all about. I've also taken her barre inspired classes and enjoy those as well!

Michelle also created a meal plan for me, I've never followed a meal plan before but I stuck with this one and lost four pounds.
She made herself available to me to via whatsapp to respond to any questions/concerns, which I really appreciated.

I highly recommend seeing Michelle for her personal training and health coaching sessions!

-Cassie
What Our Happy Clients Are Saying:
I started following Michelle on insta, on her MichLwellness account, since October-November 2020!

I started doing her low impact workouts and I saw a drastic change in my body. Since following her, I realised that low-impact workouts are great, as they get you the results you want while avoiding injuries. Michelle is very dedicated, energetic, and as a plus, she has great music.

She knows what she is doing and she seems happy to share her love of working out with us. She offers a variety of low-impact exercises and her workouts are always different! Needless to say, her workouts are amazing!

She makes working out fun! You should definitely give her workouts a try.

-Olivia
What Our Happy Clients Are Saying:
I will!! Just so you know, you gave me the motivation to start taking better care of myself... I used to run and was always injured... so I stopped... I know that when I go back, my body will be stronger.

And also, you made me enjoy training! My chiropractor is really happy to see the changes. Thanks!!

-Sylvie

  • These twice baked potatoes are a great way to use leftover baked sweet or white potatoes a second time over, without getting bored of the same old same old.

The recipe is super duper simple: cut your leftover potatoes in half and carefully scoop out the insides. Make sure to keep a thin layer of potato to keep the skin sturdy. Put the inner potato into a bowl, and make into your fave mashed potatoes!

Now for the toppings & fillings: sauté a handful of your fave veggies in a frying pan until soft. Season with salt, pepper & garlic powder.

Combine your mashed potato & veggies, stirring to combine. You can add salsa or tomato sauce at this point too.

Top your potato with your fave dairy or non dairy cheese. Bake in the oven at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.

Serve piping hot and enjoy! You can also add added cheese, bacon bits, sour cream, guacamole, anything really once the potato is ready to eat!

  • It’s officially soup season & I’m getting creative this Fall!

Truth: I’ve never in my life had broccoli cheddar soup. I got it in my head that I wanted to make a dairy free version, so here we are! This creamy, dreamy soup is totally dairy free & can also be made completely vegan. Definitely worth adding to your soup roster!

**Add salt & pepper to taste before serving

You can also swap all the dairy free options for dairy if you choose. Your swaps are:

Cashew milk = 1% milk
Coconut milk = heavy cream
Vegan cheddar = regular cheddar

Enjoy!

  • I’m super flexible with my grocery shopping 90% of the time. I shop sales, I don’t always buy organic and I always try to keep my grocery bill as low as possible.

That said, I have a few non-negotiables when I’m grocery shopping. If you’re looking to make small changes that will have big results in your overall health, these are a few small ways to choose products that limit the amount of chemicals, toxins and additives that can built up in your body

1. Read your meat labels. Always buy hormone & antibiotic free. Try to get organic whenever possible. Avoid products with too many ingredients, and especially ones with nitrates in them.
2. If you’re buying pre-made broths, buy organic & low sodium where possible. The ingredient list should contain items you recognize & no artificial colours or flavours.
3. Try to buy mercury free canned tuna. Regular tuna can have significant amounts of mercury in it, and over time that same build up can happen in your body.
5. Organic coconut milk is key: it should only list 2 ingredients ideally and that’s coconut & water. Many of the non organic brands us thickening additives that aren’t great to consume.
6. I don’t have this above but but organic, free range eggs whenever possible. Mainstream eggs are can contain antibiotics & pesticides that get absorbed into the body when eaten.
7. High quality supplements. These cost more for sure, but if you’re going to add a supplement to your diet you want to ensure you’re giving your system the highest quality of this vitamin or mineral. Do some research before selecting the brand that works for you

  • Back to the office means back to weekly meal prep! I try to keep it simple during the week- quick 25-30 minute prep and then on my way!

Meal prep doesn’t mean hours of work, in fact it shouldn’t. To keep it simple & still allow for homemade meals, here are some easy tips to follow:

✨ Leverage leftovers. Do your cooking on the weekend or at night so you have quick options to grab for lunch. Some great options are roasted chicken or fish, quinoa, brown rice, roasted veggies, or sweet potatoes.
✨ Chop up some veggies or fruit to bring with you. Try to add a healthy fat like olives, avocado or mixed nuts to keep you full longer.
✨ Don’t skip breakfast. If you can, bring something to the office otherwise prep something for before you leave. These oats take 4 minutes to prep and 2 minutes to cook. They’re a great weekday option
✨ Keep some other grab and go snacks handy. Not all pre-made snacks are bad, in fact there are tons of great options to choose from. Check your ingredients & this provides you some really quick grab and go options.

For more recipe & meal prep ideas, head to MichLWellness members. Free 10 day trial AND only $9.99/month to join.

  • One of the biggest fitness mistakes is not listening to your body and feeling “bullied” into movement that is too advanced for your fitness level.

When beginning your fitness journey, making sure to listen to your body & ideally finding trainers and classes that provide modifications for different levels is key. If you don’t listen to your body, you are more likely to get injured or simply not go back due to the experience.

Trainers are there to motivate, to push you, but also to understand limitations. No one should be mocking or criticizes you for adjusting a movement or “leveling down”.

Don’t let these kinds of classes deter you. There are tons of encouraging instructors that have the main goal of seeing you succeed. It takes time to find fitness that fits, but a positive approach from an instructor always helps motivate more than a negative one.

Some of my fave positive fitness trainers & studios are:
Me (duh) I provide modifications for all moves so that you can adjust as you go

@alessiasculpt
@nicoleisshort
@sarabucksmovement
@ckazfit
@uniti_fitness_pointe_claire

Check them all out: you’ll find something you like with one of their platforms (most available online) or in person in Montreal or Toronto.
